Artist of the Week - ED Raw

Eric Degelos Jr. has always been good at English and word play, which is where he gets his raw talent. Going back as far as the sixth grade, it was normal to find him jotting down lyrics and rhymes. Come high school he began to get serious about it, and he began recording his raps and establishing a name for himself during his senior year of high school. “I've always thought of myself as a raw artist,” said Degelos and this is where part of where his rap name, ED Raw, comes from. It also comes from a family name. As a kid his little brother couldn’t say Eric, only managing to get out Raw-Raw. His family soon followed, with everyone calling...

Artist of the Week- Counterfeit

When California-based rapper Counterfeit began making music, he had no idea it would turn into a serious part of his life. The artist began making music in high school, first creating joke tracks with a friend. Soon enough, he realized making music was actually something he enjoyed. He linked with a producer, Becksuses, and in August 2018, officially began making and releasing tracks. Before releasing anything, the artist had to decide on a name, and he settled on one with a deep connection to his own life. “I picked the name ‘Counterfeit’ because I’ve been around so many snakes in my life,” he said.  “They have stripped me away of who I really am. I feel I have to put...

Artist of the Week- St. Branham

Parker Santos has always had a musical touch. When he was only five years old, the Shreveport native began playing the piano, and seven years later, he took those skills and decided to begin producing music. After getting his hands on a copy of FL studio, he started playing around with some beats. Now, at 21, the artist has released a full album and a collection of singles. Though Parker Santos is his real name, the musician is more widely known in the music community as St. Branham, “Saint” coming from his last name, and “Branham” his middle. Santos releases his chill R&B and hip-hop tracks under this pseudonym to Spotify, Soundcloud and Apple Music. He agrees that gaining listeners...

Artist of the Week- Abushady

Nicholas Freiman has been around music his entire life- his mother was an opera singer and met his father, who was a director, at the Amato Opera house in lower Manhattan. He performed there as a young child and began his life as a performer, singer, and actor, although he did not know it at the time. He wrote songs in a high school band, performed at school musicals, and began singing at open mic events around New York since he was just 16 years old. In the beginning, he performed mostly acoustic shows, under the stage name Nick Abushady (Abushady is a family name with Egyptian origins and ties to a sort of secret society of scientists that his Great Grandfather...

Artist of the Week- Kidnap

Kiefer Napolitano's mother wouldn't let him download songs when he was younger, but that didn't stop him from listening to music. Instead, he got his brother to burn him CD's which he would play on the lowest volume possible in order to hide it from his mom. Fast forward to high school and he was riding around Mandeville, Louisiana freestyling with his boys. His goal now? "Dodge the suit n tie." His older brother Taylor goes by T-nap, so Kidnap was a natural nickname for the younger Napolitano. When he dropped his first track "1082" his senior year, he naturally chose Kidnap as his rap name. He will admit, however, that "even though [he] really loves the song to this day,...
